A diocese of Kerala with a Church community concentrated in Kunnakkurudy, Angamaly is home to the tomb of Mar Baselios Yeldho at Kothamangalam and to two martyrs of the Church.

The territory of the Diocese of Angamaly was the site of extensive missionary activity between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. A majority of the present population descends from Hindu converts of that period. The Syrian saint Mar Baselios Yeldho, Maphrian of the East, is interred at Kothamangalam, which has since become a historic pilgrimage centre. He travelled to Malankara from the Syriac Orthodox heartland of Mesopotamia and passed away at Kothamangalam in 1685; his tomb there remains a place of pilgrimage for the faithful of the Church.
Between 2002 and 2009 the territory was divided into the dioceses of Angamaly West and Angamaly East, the latter created for parishes with a schismatic majority and led by V. Rev. Thomas Paul Ramban. Owing to the small membership of both, being among the smallest dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Church by numbers, they were reunited in 2009 as the Diocese of Angamaly under Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos.
The principal stronghold of the Orthodox Church in the diocese is the village of Kunnakkurudy, with more than 1,000 families. Two martyrs of the Church, Malankara Varghese and Thottappattu Kuriakose, originate from this diocese.
