History

The Evangelistic Association of the East was founded on 5 November 1924 as the first missionary association of the schismatic faction, by Geevarghese Cor-Episcopa Athunkal (1902–1997). It initially concentrated on spreading the Gospel, providing spiritual education and running orphanages and schools among underserved communities. As its ministries grew, it was formally registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act in 1949.

The Malankara Church recognised it as a diocese at the reunion of 1958. Since all its members belonged to the schismatic faction after the second schism of 1974, it is now a titular see under the direct administration of the Catholicos at Devalokam.
