The diocese was formally inaugurated on 3 October 2009 by H.G. Dr. Mathews Mar Severios, Secretary of the Holy Episcopal Synod.

Its territory encompasses the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, together with the overseas territories of Oman and Yemen, although the church in Yemen is now closed. The diocese presently operates from the diocesan complex on the premises of St. Mary's School, Naroda.
