Diocese of Adoor–Kadampanad

Established in 2010, the Diocese of Adoor–Kadampanad is distinguished by the largest monastic community in the Church and by the Orthodox majority of the Kadampanad region, a rarity in Kerala.

History

The Diocese of Adoor–Kadampanad was constituted on 15 August 2010. Its first Metropolitan, H.G. Zacharias Mar Aprem, administered the diocese until his suspension in 2024. On 4 August 2025, after accepting a petition submitted by him, the Episcopal Synod reinstated him in all his positions, including that of Diocesan Metropolitan.

The diocese is notable for possessing the largest monastic population of any diocese in the Church, comprising 60 male religious and 77 nuns. It is further distinguished demographically: the Kadampanad region, over which it exercises jurisdiction, has a majority Malankara Orthodox population, making it one of the few localities in Kerala where members of the Orthodox Church constitute an outright majority.
